The Little Things You Tell Us Can Make a BIG Difference ❤️

As parents, we know that life doesn’t stop when you drop your child off at daycare.

Sometimes mornings are rushed. Sometimes everyone is tired. Sometimes there was an argument at home, a rough night, a change in routine, or something happening behind the scenes that your child may not have the words to explain.

And while you may think, “It’s really not a big deal,” we want you to know that telling your child’s teacher can make a world of difference.

Maybe Mommy and Daddy aren’t getting along right now.

Maybe your child got into trouble at home and had a difficult morning.

Maybe they were awake half the night and are exhausted.

Maybe there has been a change in the family.

Maybe they are starting potty training.

Maybe they had a scary dream.

Maybe Grandma is visiting.

Maybe they are simply having an unusually emotional morning.

We want to know.

Not because we are being nosy. Not because we are judging. And certainly not because we want to take the place of a parent.

We want to know because your child may carry those feelings with them through the classroom door.

A child who normally runs into the classroom smiling may be unusually quiet. A child

who usually follows directions may become frustrated or emotional. A child who normally handles sharing well may suddenly have a difficult time. A child who didn’t sleep well may need extra patience, cuddles, or a little more grace that day.

When we know what might be going on, we can look at their behavior through a different lens.

Instead of thinking, “Why are they acting like this today?” we can think, “Okay, I know they had a rough night. What can I do to help them feel safe and successful today?”

We want to be your partner. 🤝

Your child’s teacher sees a side of your child that you may not always see at home, just as you see a side of your child that we don’t always see at school. Both perspectives matter.

When we communicate with one another, we can connect the dots.

You might tell us, “They’re starting potty training, so they may need some extra reminders today.”

We can respond, “Absolutely! We’ll make sure we’re offering regular potty breaks and encouraging them throughout the day.”

You might say, “They didn’t sleep much last night.”

We can respond, “We’ll keep that in mind today. If they seem more tired or emotional, we’ll give them some extra patience.”

You might simply say, “We’ve had a difficult morning.”

That little bit of information can completely change how we approach your child for the day.

You don’t have to give us every detail.

We don’t need the whole story. You don’t have to explain private family matters.

Sometimes all we need is:

“We’ve had a rough morning.”

“Something happened at home, and they’re having a hard time today.”

“They didn’t sleep well.”

“There have been some changes at home.”

That’s enough.

It gives us the information we need to meet your child where they are that day.

Communication helps us give them grace. ❤️

Children are still learning how to understand and express big feelings. They don’t always know how to say, “I’m worried because Mommy and Daddy were arguing,” or “I’m exhausted because I woke up three times last night,” or “I’m frustrated because I’m learning how to use the potty.”

Instead, their feelings may come out as tears, tantrums, clinginess, aggression, withdrawal, accidents, or simply being “not themselves.”

When we know there may be something behind the behavior, we can respond with understanding instead of frustration.

We can offer a hug.

We can provide a quiet space.

We can give an extra reminder.

We can adjust our expectations.

We can provide more encouragement.

We can simply be a little more patient.

We are a team.

At Bobcat Babies, we truly believe that parents and teachers should work together, not separately.

You know your child best.

We know your child in the classroom.

When we communicate, we can combine that knowledge to better understand, support, teach, and love your child.

So please don’t ever worry that you’re bothering us when you tell us something.

Those little details aren’t little to us.

They help us understand the child walking through our doors that morning.

And sometimes, knowing that “they had a really hard morning” is exactly what we need to give your child the extra love, patience, and support they need to turn their day around.

Tell us. Talk to us. Communicate with us.

We’re not here to judge your family.

We’re here to love your child, support your family, and be part of your team. ❤️

Because when parents and teachers work together, the child wins. 🥰
